CALANGUTE MLA INAUGRATES  HOTMIXING OF GAURAVADDO-UMTAVADDO ROAD; WORKS BEGIN AFTER UTILITY LINES LAID

Calangute: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Thursday  commenced the hotmixing of the road stretch from St. Anthony Chapel, Gauravaddo to the Water Tank at Umtavaddo, Calangute, marking the start of long-awaited road restoration in the area.

Lobo was joined by Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira, Panchayat Secretary Arjun Velip, panch members, and officials at the site. The road work follows the completion of underground water pipeline and sewage infrastructure projects along the stretch. Officials said hotmixing had been pending until the utility works were finished to avoid repeated digging.

“With the water and sewage lines now laid, we have started the road restoration. This was a key demand of residents. We are committed to steadily improving infrastructure and connectivity across Calangute,” MLA Lobo said.

Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said the Gauravaddo-Umtavaddo stretch is a vital link used by locals and school traffic daily. “The road was in poor condition due to trench work. Hotmixing will provide a smooth, durable surface ahead of peak season and monsoon,” he added. The stretch connects residential wards and leads towards several schools, seeing heavy pedestrian and vehicular movement. Residents had raised concerns over dust, potholes, and unsafe conditions for months.Panchayat officials said the hotmixing will be executed in a time-bound manner with quality checks. Taffic diversions will be in place during the work to minimize inconvenience.
