Calangute Gram Sabha Flags Concerns Over Village Carrying Capacity
CALANGUTE: the issue of Calangute’s carrying capacity dominated the discussions at the gram sabha held on Sunday as villagers and panchayat members raised concerns over the growing pressure of tourism on the village’s infrastructure.Members highlighted problems of water shortages, garbage accumulation, traffic congestion, and strain on public services during peak tourist season. Several residents stressed that unchecked growth was affecting the quality of life for locals and needed to be addressed urgently for sustainable development. The Sabha also discussed a proposal for developing Street Food Hubs at Bodko Vodd. While some members saw it as a way to regulate vendors and boost livelihoods, others linked it to the larger question of managing tourist numbers and resources within the village’s limits.

Other agenda items included confirmation of the previous Gram Sabha proceedings and review of development proposals submitted by members. Sarpanch Joseph sequeira said that all suggestions made during the meeting on carrying capacity and infrastructure would be studied before any final decisions are taken.
