Rangoli Spreads Mental Health Awareness on World Schizophrenia Day

PANAJI, May 24, 2026 — Using art to advocate for mental health, a vibrant rangoli was created on Saturday to mark World Schizophrenia Day and spread awareness about the Government of India’s Tele-MANAS initiative.The rangoli, themed around mental health and the 24×7 Tele-MANAS helpline, aimed to break stigma and inform citizens about free tele-counselling services available under the National Tele Mental Health Programme. Intricate patterns and motifs highlighted messages of hope, support, and the helpline Observed annually on May 24, World Schizophrenia Day focuses on reducing stigma and improving understanding of mental health conditions.

The Tele-MANAS project, launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, provides universal access to mental healthcare through a network of state-run cells.

“Art reaches people where pamphlets don’t. Through rangoli, we’re telling families that help is just a call away,” said the artist behind the initiative.
