Purmentacho Bazaar Promotes Vocal for Local While Celebrating Goa’s Traditional Flavours and Cultural Heritage
Sankhali, May 23, 2026: Purmentacho Bazaar, a two-day celebration inspired by Goa’s traditional Purument culture associated with preparations for the monsoon season, commenced at Ravindra Bhavan Sankhali with strong public participation. Organised by the Goa State Rural Livelihood Mission (GSRLM), Department of Rural Development, Government of Goa, in association with Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali, the festival focuses on promoting local entrepreneurship, traditional products and community-based livelihoods.

This year’s festival has brought together 80 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across 42 stalls featuring authentic Goan delicacies, spices, sweets, handicrafts, pickles, dry fish and other locally made products. Women entrepreneurs, artisans and small businesses from different parts of Goa are participating in the event, while cultural performances and live music programmes added to the festive atmosphere.
A dedicated GI Tag Facilitation Stall has also been set up as part of the festival to spread awareness about Geographical Indication (GI) registration and assist stakeholders with the application process. GI-tagged products from Goa are being showcased during the event, highlighting the State’s traditional knowledge, local identity and indigenous products.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said that Purmentacho Bazaar reflects Goa’s rich cultural and culinary heritage and plays an important role in preserving traditional food practices for future generations. He appreciated the efforts of the organisers in creating a platform that connects local producers, entrepreneurs and artisans directly with the public.

He noted that festivals like Purmentacho Bazaar not only help local businesses grow, but also contribute towards tourism and provide exposure to Goa’s art, culture and traditions.
The festival witnessed an encouraging response from visitors, with families and tourists exploring the wide variety of local products, cuisines and cultural programmes on display.
