Despite Pre-Monsoon Showers, Calangute Beach Packed With Tourists

CALANGUTE, May 24, 2026 — Heavy crowds descended on Calangute Beach on sunday  despite choppy seas and strong undercurrents triggered by recent rainfall, keeping lifeguards on high alert.

Both domestic tourists and locals packed the shoreline, many venturing close to the water despite red flags warning of rough conditions. Lifeguards patrolled in full force, using public address systems and whistles to call back visitors who strayed into deeper waters.“The sea is still rough after the rains. We’re urging people to stay within safe zones and avoid swimming,” said a senior lifeguard. No major incidents were reported, though several tourists were guided back to shore.

Authorities have reiterated safety advisories: heed red flags, avoid rocky areas, and swim only in designated zones under lifeguard supervision. With the monsoon approaching, officials expect sea conditions to worsen. The annual swimming ban at Goa’s beaches typically begins June 1.
