“Governor of Goa Seeks Blessings at Shree Mahalaxmi Temple”
Panaji: Governor of Goa, Shri Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, accompanied by First Lady Smt. P. Suneela Gajapathi Raju, paid a visit to the revered Shree Mahalaxmi Temple in Panjim. The couple invoked blessings from Goddess Mahalaxmi, seeking prosperity and well-being for the state and its people.

The Shree Mahalaxmi Temple is a historic and culturally significant temple dedicated to Goddess Mahalaxmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. Located in the heart of Panjim, the temple has a rich history dating back to the 19th century when it was rebuilt after being allowed to be constructed by the liberal Portuguese Governor Conde De Rio Pardo in 1818. The temple’s architecture is a blend of traditional Goan Hindu temple styles, with a modest Sabha Mandap and a deepstambha (lamp tower) lit during festivals ¹ ² ³.
The Governor’s visit to the Shree Mahalaxmi Temple highlights the importance of spirituality and cultural heritage in the state’s life. By seeking blessings from the Goddess, the Governor and his wife demonstrated their respect for the local traditions and customs. This visit also underscores the significance of the temple as a symbol of Goa’s resilient Hindu identity, which has survived centuries of colonial rule ³.
