“Technology-driven agriculture is key to building a Swayampurna Goa,” says CM Dr. Pramod Sawant
Sankhali, July 7, 2026: Krushi Pe Charcha, a seminar on Latest Technologies and Emerging Opportunities in Agriculture, organised by the Directorate of Agriculture, was held at Ravindra Bhavan, Sankhali, today. The programme brought together farmers, students, experts and agri-entrepreneurs to deliberate on the changing landscape of agriculture, with a focus on technology adoption, sustainable farming, value addition and new avenues for agricultural growth. Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the seminar and interacted with the participants.
A major highlight of the seminar was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Directorate of Agriculture and NABCONS for the implementation of AgriStack and Goa’s new State Agriculture Policy. The initiative will drive the adoption of technology in agricultural governance through Digital Farmer IDs, better crop data management and improved access to government services, paving the way for more efficient and data-driven planning. The seminar also featured expert sessions on bamboo cultivation, jackfruit processing and value addition, horticulture, spice cultivation, agri-business and the role of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said technology-driven agriculture is key to building a Swayampurna Goa and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the welfare and prosperity of every farmer. He said the Government is promoting high-value crops such as bamboo and turmeric, encouraging beekeeping, expanding horticulture, reviving Khazan farming and enabling farmers to adopt modern technologies. Congratulating the Directorate of Agriculture and NABCONS on signing the MoU for the implementation of AgriStack and Goa’s new State Agriculture Policy, he said the initiative would strengthen data-driven agricultural planning across the State. He added that every farmer in Goa will receive a Digital Farmer ID to ensure easier access to government schemes and services.
CM Dr. Sawant said the Government will continue to ensure fair and remunerative returns for farmers despite market fluctuations. Inspired by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and his emphasis on farmer welfare, self-reliance and Vocal for Local, he said Goa’s agricultural exports have grown to nearly ₹5 crore, reflecting the growing strength of the State’s farming sector. He said greater emphasis on value-added agriculture, bamboo cultivation, jackfruit processing, horticulture, spice branding, agri-business and Farmer Producer Organisations would open up new income opportunities for farmers while contributing to the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat.

The seminar concluded with discussions on practical ways to improve productivity, encourage value addition and strengthen market linkages for farmers. Participants also exchanged ideas on adopting modern technologies and building a resilient agriculture sector. CM Dr. Sawant and Dr. Chandrakant Shetye were felicitated by the Directorate of Agriculture on the occasion.
Among those present on the occasion were MLA Shri Premendra Shet; MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye; Agriculture secretary, IAS Shri Nikhil U. Desai ; along with officials of the Directorate of Agriculture, NABCONS, agriculture experts, farmers, students and agri-entrepreneurs.
