Mapusa Firefighters Pull Dog to Safety from 20-ft Well Near Nachinola Panchayat
Mapusa : A dog trapped in a deep well near the Nachinola Panchayat was rescued safely on Tuesday morning by personnel from the Mapusa Fire Station, in a 30-minute operation led by Sub Officer Shri Prakash Kannaik.
The Fire and Emergency Services control room received a call at 10:15 HRS reporting that a stray dog had fallen into an open well in Nachinola village. A fire team from Mapusa station immediately rushed to the spot with rescue equipment.On arrival, firefighters found the dog struggling to stay afloat in the 20-foot-deep well with around 6 feet of water.
Sub Officer Kannaik assessed the situation and deployed a fireman into the well using a rescue rope and harness. The team lowered a rescue net and secured the animal, which was then carefully lifted out without injury.
Locals who had gathered at the site applauded the fire team as the dog was pulled to safety. The animal, though exhausted, was found to be unharmed and was later handed over to village residents. Officials said open wells continue to pose a risk to animals and children, especially during the monsoon. The fire department has appealed to panchayats and residents to cover or fence unused wells to prevent such incidents.The prompt response by the Mapusa fire team prevented what could have been a fatality. The operation concluded by 10:50 HRS with all personnel returning safely to the station.
