Art with a Message: Poster Calls for Eco-Friendly Festivals, Warns Against Burning Plastic
Panaji: A creative handmade poster carrying a strong environmental message is drawing wide appreciation. Themed “Let’s Preserve Traditions by Protecting Nature,” the artwork highlights the ill effects of burning plastics on human health and the environment. The poster presents 20 pictorial messages in a grid format. On the health front, it warns of serious consequences like lung diseases, eye irritation, cancers, skin diseases, mental health and heart diseases, fetus problems, headache, fertility problems and genotoxic effects caused due to toxic fumes from burning plastic. On the environmental front, it illustrates air pollution, global warming, water pollution, land and soil pollution and wildlife damage. The poster also offers a constructive solution – making an Eco-Friendly Narakasur, avoiding burning of plastic-wrapped effigies, saving nature, and celebrating festivals with care for children and elderly people .The artwork concludes with a powerful collective message: “We Can Do It With Joint Efforts.”
The message is especially relevant in the Goan context where the tradition of making Narakasur effigies is popular, and use of plastic for decoration often leads to toxic smoke during burning, affecting public health. Such creative efforts play a vital role in spreading awareness among citizens to celebrate traditions in an eco-friendly and sustainable manner.
