Kamaxi College of Culinary Arts Marks Start of Festive Cheer with Cake Mixing Ceremony

Panaji, October 2026: The countdown to Christmas began at the Verna-based Kamaxi College of Culinary Arts (KCCA), as students and faculty came together for its annual traditional Cake Mixing Ceremony, marking the beginning of the festive baking season.
The ceremony involved preparing a blend of dried fruits, nuts and aromatic spices for traditional Christmas cakes. Prepared well in advance of baking, the mixture is typically left to mature for several weeks, allowing the ingredients to develop their flavours before being incorporated into festive cakes.

A familiar feature of Christmas preparations in hotels, bakeries and professional kitchens, cake mixing also offers culinary students an opportunity to understand the planning and preparation that go into seasonal baking. At KCCA, the activity brought classroom learning into practice, with students working alongside faculty members and engaging with the processes involved in festive food preparation.
“Christmas has a way of bringing people together, and food has always been at the heart of that celebration. The cake mixing ceremony captures this beautifully, it is about coming together, sharing the experience and beginning preparations for a season filled with warmth and generosity. For our students, it is also an opportunity to be part of a tradition that brings as much meaning to the process as it does to the final creation,” said Subhasis Mandal, Principal, Kamaxi College of Culinary Arts.
The ceremony highlighted the role of collaborative activities in culinary education, allowing students to put their skills into practice while engaging with a seasonal preparation that forms part of the hospitality industry’s festive calendar.
