Dussehra at Dattawadi: Devotees and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza seek blessings at Dev Kajreshwar temple
MAPUSA: The auspicious occasion of Dussehra was marked with deep devotion in Dattawadi on Tuesday as hundreds of devotees gathered at the historic Dev Kajreshwar temple to offer prayers for peace, prosperity, good health and happiness. The temple, a revered landmark for the people of Mapusa, was beautifully decorated with marigolds, mango leaves and traditional lamps. From early morning, long queues of families were seen outside the sanctum, carrying coconuts, flowers and incense for darshan. Adding to the significance of the day, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza also visited the temple to seek the blessings of Dev Kajreshwar. His presence was noted by the devotees, who said it reflected the community’s collective spirit of celebrating the festival together. For the people of Dattawadi, Dussehra at Kajreshwar is more than a ritual. It is an annual tradition where the broader celebration of the victory of good over evil meets the deep local reverence for Dev Kajreshwar as the guardian deity of the area.
Temple committee members said special abhishekams and aratis were performed throughout the morning, followed by distribution of prasad. Volunteers helped manage the crowd and assisted elderly devotees for a smooth darshan.
