Kadamba Transport Corporation Marks 46th Anniversary; CM Calls for Digital Upgrades and More AC & Electric Buses

Panaji, 20th October 2026: The Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) celebrated its 46th Anniversary at the KTC Bus Terminus, Panaji, with a focus on improving public transport connectivity, passenger convenience and employee welfare. The occasion also highlighted a significant milestone for women’s empowerment, with Pooja Vaingankar becoming the first woman bus driver of KTCL in Goa.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant congratulated KTCL on its continued service to the people of Goa and emphasised that the Corporation’s primary objective is to provide reliable and accessible public transport rather than compete with private operators. He said, “We have introduced the Mhaji Bus scheme and I appeal to everyone to join the scheme. From November 1, KTCL will offer a 20% discount on monthly passes valid for 30 days and a 30% discount on annual passes. We want to provide the best possible services to the people.”

The Chief Minister also stressed the need to modernise public transport through technology and fleet expansion. He called for the introduction of digital ticketing, advance booking facilities and GPS tracking, alongside increasing the number of air-conditioned and electric buses to improve passenger comfort and reduce pollution.

KTCL currently operates 583 intrastate and 102 interstate schedules with a fleet of 677 buses, including 198 air-conditioned electric buses. Having added 55 buses over the past year, the Corporation has placed orders for 32 additional buses. From November 1, eight additional intrastate schedules are planned, including two ring services in Margao and six services on the Panaji–Margao and Panaji–Vasco routes. Another 10 interstate schedules are planned to strengthen connectivity to destinations in neighbouring states.

CM Sawant also emphasised the importance of employee welfare and social security, highlighting the need to extend appropriate benefits to contractual employees. A key highlight of the celebration was the recognition of Pooja Vaingankar, Goa’s first woman bus driver with KTCL. Her achievement marks an important step towards greater participation of women in public transport and traditionally male-dominated professions. The Chief Minister congratulated her and acknowledged the growing contribution of women across different public service roles.

On the occasion, The Goa State Co-operative Bank Ltd. inaugurated its renovated branch at the Kadamba Bus Terminus, Panaji. The inauguration, held on the occasion of Dussehra, marks an effort to improve access to banking facilities for passengers, employees and the public through upgraded infrastructure and more efficient services.

The anniversary celebration was graced by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant as the Chief Guest; Hon’ble Minister for Transport Mauvin Godinho as the Guest of Honour; MLA, Navelim Constituency and Chairman of KTCL Shri Ulhas Y. Tuenkar; Managing Director Shri Rohan Kaskar, and other members of the KTCL Board of Directors and officials.

As KTCL marks 46 years of service, the Corporation remains focused on expanding its network, modernising its fleet, adopting digital solutions and enhancing passenger facilities to provide accessible, affordable and reliable public transport across Goa and beyond.
