Goa on the back foot against mighty Maharashtra
Pune: Maharashtra posted a formidable 411 runs in their first innings against Goa on the opening day of their MCA Senior Men’s Interstate Multi-Day Practice Match at the MCA International Cricket Ground, Gahunje, Pune. In reply, Goa reached 156 for four in 49 overs, trailing by 255 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, Maharashtra scored 271 for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of first-day play. Resuming today, they added another 140 to their kitty and were bowled out for 411 in 100.4 overs. Atharva Dharmadhikari led the innings with an impressive 130 off 185 balls, striking 20 fours and a six. Siddhesh Veer contributed 69 off 178 balls, while Vicky Ostwal scored 38 and Harshal Kate added 28.
Goa’s bowlers shared the wickets, with V. Koushik, Ruthvik Naik, Arjun Tendulkar and Deepraj Gaonkar claiming two wickets each. Heramb Parab and Amulya Pandrekar picked up one wicket apiece.
In reply, Goa lost four wickets for 156 runs in 49 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Shivendra Bhujbal top-scored with 69 off 131 balls, including 10 boundaries. Darshan Misal remained unbeaten on 48 off 90 balls, while captain Abhinav Tej Rana scored 16. Goa will look to build on Misal’s innings as they continue their response to Maharashtra’s substantial first-innings total.
