Asmita Khelo India Wushu City League concludes successfully in Pernem
Pernem: The Asmita Khelo India Wushu City League concluded successfully in Pernem, bringing together young and senior Wushu athletes from across Goa for competitive action in Taolu and Sanda weight-category events.
The league provided an important platform for emerging Wushu players to showcase their skills, gain competitive experience and compete across different age and weight categories.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Mr. Devendra Prabhu Desai, Chairperson, Prabhu Desai Foundation, Parsem, Pernem; Mrs. Meeksha Manjrekar, BDO, Pernem; Alisha Da Cunha, ADEI, Pernem; Mr. Nitin Halarnkar, Police Inspector, Pernem; Leesha Garudi, Lady Police Sub-Inspector; Mrs. Swati Santosh Malpekar, Sarpanch, Virnoda Panchayat; and Sweety Naik, Panch Member, Tuem Village Panchayat. The competition was declared open by Secretary Association of Goa Wushu Mr. Paulo Killman Fernandes.
The closing ceremony was attended by Dr. Tisha Sanghodkar, psychologist and Harvard University graduate; Mr. Rajan Korgaonkar, Mission of Local; Mr. Ganpatrao Pednekar, former Panch Member, Tuem Panchayat; and Mr. Raju Narse, former Sarpanch, Korgao Panchayat. Mr. Devendra Prabhudesai and all guests honoured the players with medals.
The Taolu competitions witnessed strong performances across the Changquan, Nanquan, Taijiquan, Nangun and other events.
In the Sub Junior (A) Changquan event, Deepeka Gawde of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda, secured first place, followed by Bhumi Gawde and Riyanshi Gawade, both from GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda. Tanishka of St. Francis Xavier High School, Siolim, finished fourth.
In Sub Junior Nanquan, Poorvi of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda, finished first, followed by Zahida Shah. In the Junior Nanquan event, Riya of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda, secured first place, followed by Kubra Sandi.
The Taijiquan event saw Tia of St. Francis Xavier High School, Siolim, take first place, followed by Aditi Bagli of Keerti Vidyalaya, Siolim, Asmina Shaikh of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda, and Shreya Naik of St. Francis Xavier High School, Siolim.
In Junior Nangun, Riya Kumari of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda, finished first, followed by Kubra Sandi.
Among the senior athletes, the gold medalist were Shabi of SSA Government College, Virnoda, Pernem, won the Taijiquan event, while Shabnam Shaikh of PEs College, Farmagudi won Nanquan. Gayatri Raut of SSA Government College, Virnoda, Pernem, won Quangshu, while Janiva Fernandes, also from SSA Government College, won both Changquan and Daoshu.
The weight-category competitions also witnessed participation from athletes representing schools, colleges, sports clubs and academies across Goa.
In Sub Junior (A) Below 27kg, Niharika Kumari of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda, won gold, followed by Kumkum Prajapati of Goa Yuva Sports Club, with Shifa Baupur of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda, and Shresha Mandrekar of St. Rita’s High School, Colvale, finishing joint third.
In Below 30kg, Rubi Kumari of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda, secured first place, followed by Divya Rathod of St. Rita’s High School, Colvale, and Kavya Raul of Dhargal Kungfu Academy.
In Below 33kg, Sunaina Pednekar of Manguirish Vidyalaya English High School, Arabel, won first place, followed by Drushti Ahirwar of St. Ann’s High School, Tivim, and Saavi Gawade of GHS, Agarwada.
In Below 36kg, Samruddhi Fadte of St. Rita’s High School, Colvale, finished first, followed by Kavya Pire of Rosary High School, Navelim.
In Below 40kg, Shravani Jena of Dona Leanor Memorial High School, Porvorim, won first place, followed by Pari Singh of St. Rita’s High School, Colvale, Ashwini Chawan of Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley High School, Pilerne, and Hifiza Karnekar of GHS, Agarwada.
In Below 45kg, Mrunal Kubal of St. Clara’s High School, Assonora, secured first place, followed by Sweecha Parab of St. Clara’s High School, Assonora, Trisha Bharti and Sneha Lamani of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda.
In the Sub Junior (B) Below 39kg category, Giovanna of Academy of Combat Sports, Panjim, won first place, followed by Tahreen Khan of Government Middle School, Mapusa, Mansi Purohit of Goa Yuva Sports Club and Jyoti Kumari of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda.
In Below 42kg, Rumaiza Baig of St. Ann’s High School, Tivim, took first place, followed by Aasra Baig and Anjali Chavan, also of St. Ann’s High School.
In Below 45kg, Bhavika Joshi of Manovikas High School, Margao, secured first place, followed by Trisha Tagore of Holy Family High School, Porvorim, Arleen Zalte of Sharda Mandir, Panjim, and Arohi Gaonkar of St. Clara’s High School, Assonora.
In Below 48kg, Trusha Khope of Vidya Vikas Academy won first place, followed by Gungan Waigankar of St. Ann’s High School, Tivim, Isra Ajmi of Goa Yuva Sports Club and Priyal Pawar of St. Francis Xavier High School, Siolim.
In the Sub Junior Below 55kg category, Vaishnavi Halarnkar of St. Ann’s High School, Tivim, finished first, followed by Dhristi Dhargalkar of St. Francis Xavier High School, Siolim, Iccha Banaulikar of St. Clara’s High School, Assonora, and Hiya Fonde of St. Francis Xavier High School, Siolim.
In Sub Junior Above 60kg, Erica De Sequeira of Academy of Combat Sports, Panjim, secured first place, followed by Ritika Hirul and Siya Palkar of St. Clara’s High School, Assonora, with Prachi Naik Parrikar of Pirna also finishing among the medal winners.
The Junior (A) Below 45kg category was won by Diksha Sawal of Harmal Panchakroshi Higher Secondary School, Harmal, followed by Saraswati Nishad of GHS, Agarwada, Dirga Pariyan of Kasturbamatoshri High School and Shahin Ansari of GHS, Agarwada.
In Junior (A) Below 48kg, Kajal Kumari of GHS, Juna Bazar, Ponda, secured first place, followed by Navya Morajkar of St. Ann’s High School, Tivim, Palak Gupta of GHS, Agarwada, and Shristi Tanat of Kasturbamatoshree High School.

In Junior (B) Above 60kg, Nurjohoon Ahmed of Holy Cross Indo German School, Siolim, won first place, followed by Isha Pereira of SFX Higher Secondary School, Mapusa, Amina Khatoon of Sapteshwar Higher Secondary School, Mandrem, and Disha Gosavi of Harmal Panchakroshi Higher Secondary School, Harmal.
Among the Senior Women, Shetal Pal won the Below 45kg category, followed by Sajil Prasad. In the Below 52kg category, Rehana Alam of SSA Government College, Virnoda, Pernem, finished first, followed by Saloni of Narayan Zantye College, Bicholim, and Sujal Naik of SSA Government College.
In Below 56kg, Jamana Roy of Konkan Queens secured first place, followed by Jivita Venji of SSA Government College. In Below 60kg, Diya Talwar of Konkan Queens finished first, followed by Ashwini Zalke, also of Konkan Queens. Rupali Pednekar of Tuem Sports Club won the Senior Women Above 60kg category.
The successful completion of the Asmita Khelo India Wushu City League highlighted the growing participation of athletes in Wushu and provided competitors with valuable exposure to organised competitive sport. The event brought together athletes from schools, colleges, academies and sports clubs, underlining the importance of grassroots competitions in nurturing sporting talent in Goa. Upcoming events Sub Junior, Junior and Senior Wushu Nationals to be held at Tamilnadu, Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha respectively.
