Kauthankar’s Fighting 149 Keeps Goa in the Contest Against Vidarbha
Panaji: The four-day Dr. (Captain) Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament match between Goa and Vidarbha reached an exciting stage at the end of the third day. In reply to Vidarbha’s first-innings total of 393, Goa were bowled out for 328 in 105.3 overs, riding on a fighting 149 by captain Snehal Kauthankar. Vidarbha secured a first-innings lead of 65 runs.
At the close of the third day, Vidarbha were 120 for 5 in their second innings, taking their overall lead to 185 runs. The match is being played at the IAF Ground in Bengaluru.
Goa had been trailing by as many as 219 runs at the end of the second day. Resuming from 62, Kauthankar shouldered the responsibility and went on to score a magnificent century. He, however, fell just one run short of his 150 when Rajneesh Gurbani dismissed him for 149. Kauthankar faced 280 deliveries and struck 16 boundaries during his determined innings. He did not receive the expected support from the other end. Vidarbha conceded as many as 52 extras. Nachiket Bhute was the most successful Vidarbha bowler, claiming four wickets for 57 runs.
Vidarbha began their second innings strongly at 67 without loss. However, a run-out of well-set opener Atharva Taide for 38 triggered a collapse. From 67 for 0, Vidarbha slipped to 120 for 5.
Yash Kasvankar picked up three wickets for 26 runs, while Samit Aryan Mishra claimed one wicket for 20 runs, keeping Goa in contention heading into the final day.
