Kauthankar’s unbeaten 62 gives Goa hope
BENGALURU: Goa skipper Snehal Kauthankar’s unbeaten 62 provided a glimmer of hope after Vidarbha strengthened their grip on the Dr (Capt) Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament match at the IAF Ground here on Tuesday.
Vidarbha, resuming at 310/4, were bowled out for 393 in 107.3 overs. Goa ended the second day at 174/4 in 56 overs, trailing by 219 runs.
Kauthankar held the innings together with a patient half-century and was unbeaten alongside Yash Kasvankar (2) at stumps. Lalit Yadav scored a useful 53 before being dismissed, while Shivendra Bhujbal made 24.
For Vidarbha, overnight batter Danish Malewar, who was unbeaten on 87 on Monday, completed his century before being dismissed for 106 by Darshan Misal. Misal was Goa’s most successful bowler, returning figures of 3/84. Ruthvik Naik, Felix Alemao and Samit Aryan Mishra claimed two wickets each.
Yash Kadam remained unbeaten on 30 as Vidarbha’s lower order pushed the total towards 400. Nachiket Bhute and Parth Rekhade contributed 13 and 15 respectively, while Rajneesh Gurbani finished unbeaten on 10.
Goa now faces the task of reducing the sizeable deficit on Day 3, with much depending on Kauthankar’s ability to build partnerships and keep Vidarbha from taking complete control.
