Candolim Mangrove Walk and Children’s Park Inaugurated, Foundation Stone for Phase II Laid
Calangute , August 11, 2026: Advancing environmental conservation and community-focused development, the Village Panchayat of Candolim inaugurated Phase I of the Candolim Mangrove Park and laid the foundation stone for Phase II on Monday at Candolim Bridge. The Mangrove Walk, extending from Candolim Bridge towards Tukaram Naik Road, brought together ecological conservation, community spaces and nature-based recreation. Blending conservation with community infrastructure, the Mangrove Walk from Candolim Bridge to Sinquerim covered around 3 kilometre length. The eco-sensitive development included native tree plantations, tidal water circulation and scientifically desilted mangrove channels that supported aquatic life and strengthened the wetlands as natural flood barriers. The adjoining Children’s Park featured play facilities, landscaped spaces, a dedicated Women’s Lounge, AI-enabled CCTV surveillance and educational displays showcasing Candolim’s biodiversity.
Taking conservation a step further, the upcoming Phase II was dedicated exclusively to walking and nature, with no additional recreational or commercial facilities planned. The project also incorporated an Eagle’s Nest Observation Deck, designated angling points for local communities, resting spaces and sustainability measures such as the Return-and-Refund Bottle System, reinforcing the vision of a clean, green and environmentally responsible Candolim.The inauguration and foundation stone ceremony was held in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod P. Sawant; MLA Calangute Constituency , and Chairman, GSIDC Ltd.; Michael Lobo, Minister for Co-operation & Water Resources and Institute of Public Assistance (Provedoria); Subhash Shirodkar, former Indian cricketer; Shikhar Dhawan, and sarpanch candolim VP Blaize Fernandes, along with senior Government officials, Panchayat representatives and other distinguished guests.
The Mangrove Walk will offer residents and visitors a unique space to walk, relax and experience the natural beauty of Candolim while ensuring that this precious mangrove ecosystem is protected for generations to come.
