On Goa Statehood Day, VISL Reaffirms Commitment to Goa’s Progress & Development

As Goa celebrates its proud journey of resilience and progress on Statehood Day, Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited (VISL) has reaffirmed its commitment to the state’s holistic development through impactful initiatives spanning education, healthcare, sports, skilling, women empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, digital inclusion, agriculture, and animal welfare.
Rooted in the philosophy of “giving meaningfully,” VISL has partnered with Goan communities for over seven decades, creating sustainable pathways and opportunities while contributing significantly to the state’s socioeconomic progress.

Through flagship projects like the Sesa Football Academy (SFA) and Sesa Technical School (STS), VISL has empowered thousands of youth. SFA, with 26+ years of grassroots engagement, has nurtured over 8,000 footballers, produced 230+ graduates, and seen 14 players represent India internationally. Its women’s program, including the Vedanta Women’s League, has revived women’s football in Goa, with five teams advancing to the Indian Women’s League, with the SFA women’s team being the latest. STS, with a near 100% placement record, has shaped the careers of over 2,100 youth in 32 years, offering NCVTaffiliated training and scholarships for girls.

“The exposure through tournaments like the Vedanta Women’s League and the Indian Women’s League has been a huge learning experience for me as a player. Competing at that level has helped me improve my game, gain confidence, and dream bigger. Sesa Football Academy has given us the platform and support to grow and showcase our talent.” Says Simran Narvekar, a senior player with the SFA women’s team.

Reflecting on the influence of STS on his career, Laxman Dalvi, Alumnus from the 2018-20 batch, says, “Sesa Technical School gave me more than technical skills-it gave me confidence, discipline, and a clear direction in life. Coming from a humble background, STS helped me believe in my potential and work towards my goals with perseverance. The training and mentorship I received prepared me not just for a job, but to stand on my own feet. Today, as an entrepreneur, I take pride in how far I’ve come, and I owe this transformation to the strong foundation laid at STS.”

Beyond sports and skilling, VISL drives rural transformation through Project Aarogya (healthcare), Vriddhi (education and digital empowerment), and Project Jeevika (vocational training). Initiatives such as Gram Nirmaan and Back to Farming (sustainable livelihoods & support to rural and farming communities) have positively more than 1,000 farmers over the years. The company recently supported the Maem community with the construction of a ‘bandhara’.

VISL runs two computer centres and five computer labs in Goa, which have been established under the aegis of the Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF), benefiting over 1,500 students annually. Over 800 students have benefited through the Vedanta’s ‘Utkarsh’ Scholarship initiative, enabling youth to pursue higher education and unlock greater opportunities for the future.

Recently VISL , through TACO (The Animal Care Organization), and under the aegis of the AAF, recently inaugurated an Animal Birth Control facility in Sanquelim.
