Six Rescued From Drowning, Six Others, Including Glass-Injury Victim, Administered First Aid Along Goa Coast Over Weekend

Panaji, May 25, 2025 — Six persons were rescued from drowning off the state’s coastline, while six beachgoers — including a 41-year-old tourist from Maharashtra who cut his foot on broken glass litter —  were administered first aid, even as Drishti Marine lifesavers relocated a missing child and returned two lost mobile phones to their rightful owners.

Ozran beach

A 17-year-old male tourist from Pune was rescued after being caught in a flash rip current while swimming at Ozran beach. The teenager lost his balance and drifted towards deeper waters before Drishti Marine lifesaver Bhagwan Parab responded with a rescue tube and brought him safely back to shore.

Baga beach

At Baga beach, Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued two 21-year-old male tourists in separate incidents and reunited a missing five-year-old boy with his family. A tourist from Maharashtra was rescued by lifesaver Ankur Choudhary after drifting into deeper waters and was found stable on assessment. In another incident, a tourist from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, was rescued by lifesavers Chandan Giri and Suryakant Paryekar after being caught in a rip current despite repeated warnings. Separately, a five-year-old boy found wandering alone by lifesaver Sainath Gawas during patrol was safely reunited with his father following a public announcement.

Calangute beach

A mobile phone was recovered and returned to its owner at Calangute beach. Beach Marshal Rahul Punaji found the mobile phone during patrol duty and handed it over to tourist police personnel stationed at the tower. The device was later returned to its owner after verification in the presence of police personnel.

Candolim beach

A 22-year-old tourist from Belagavi, Karnataka, sustained a suspected spinal injury after falling into the water while repeatedly jumping despite warnings from Drishti Marine lifesaver Sujit Kumar. Unable to move his hands or legs, he was safely extracted by lifesaver Sujit Kumar, assisted by lifesavers Santosh Patil and Ramakant Kankonkar.

Sinquerim beach

A 52-year-old male tourist from Dharwad, Karnataka, was provided medical assistance after suffering a knee dislocation at Sinquerim beach. The injury occurred when a strong wave struck the group of four family members standing in knee-deep water. Lifesavers Mehboob Tahsildar and Umesh Mhadaikar provided immediate assistance before shifting the victim to Candolim Primary Health Centre for treatment.

Vainguinim beach

An 11-year-old boy was rescued after falling into the water from a private jetty near Vainguinim beach, Dona Paula, on Thursday evening. The boy, part of a group of four children aged between 10 and 15, was rescued by a nearby water sports operator using a jet ski. Drishti Marine lifesaver Mahadev immediately placed him in the recovery position and monitored his vital signs. Although stable, the boy was continuously vomiting, following which a 108 ambulance was called and he was handed over in the care of medical professionals.

Benaulim beach

A 25-year-old male from Odisha was administered first aid after sustaining a cut on his right hand at Benaulim beach. The victim, a water sports staff member, suffered the injury while opening a jeep door. Lifesaver tower captain Siddesh Gaonkar provided primary treatment and advised him to consult a doctor for further care.

Colva beach

Drishti Marine lifesaver Sameer Velip found a mobile phone during patrol and secured it at the lifesaver tower. After receiving a call from the owner and verifying ownership, the mobile phone was handed over safely.

Baina beach

Two local boys aged 10 and 11 were rescued after being swept away by strong waves at Baina beach on Friday afternoon. Lifesaver Ravichandra rescued both using a rescue tube, following which they were brought ashore by jet ski. One of the boys, who was in shock, was shifted by 108 ambulance to Chicalim Community Health Centre and later referred to the Goa Medical College. His condition was stable.

Palolem beach

Two tourists were administered first aid in separate incidents at the South Goa beach. A 41-year-old male tourist from Maharashtra suffered a cut on his right foot caused by glass in the water, while a 27-year-old male tourist from Hyderabad injured his left leg after slipping on rocks. Lifesaver Satywan Kobrekar attended to both victims.
