Tree-Fall Cases in 24 Hours Amid Pre-Monsoon Winds and Rains Keep Fire Services on Their Toes
MAPUSA, May 24, 2026 — Pre-monsoon squalls kept Bardez fire services on their toes as many tree fall -related incidents were reported in 24 hours, with fresh cases on Saturday alone. No injuries were reported. On Friday , two incidents were recorded in Akoi Karaswada. A tree fell at the entrance of Braganza Apartment near Nichani Lobo House, Panaji, partially blocking access to the building. In a separate case from the same locality, a large branch was found precariously hanging over a telephone line, risking disruption. Disaster management teams and panchayat officials initiated clearance and preventive action under the supervision of the concerned field officer.
The Mapusa Fire Station attended two more calls on Saturday. At 12:39 hrs, a tree fell on a culvert near Libra Computers, Ward No. 18, Thali House at Khorlim, Mapusa. Firefighter H.B. Parab led the response team. Later, at 13:47 hrs, another tree came down on the road at Eligio Colony, Madel Housing Board, Madel–Tivim. Firefighter Hitesh Parab and crew cleared the obstruction.Officials said gusty winds and dry soil have heightened the risk of tree falls across Bardez. “We’re seeing back-to-back calls. Citizens must report dangerous trees early,” a fire official said.The District Disaster Management Authority has directed panchayats to conduct quick inspections of vulnerable trees near houses, roads, and power lines.
