Saligao MLA Kedar Naik Launches Ward II Road Revamp, Promises Monsoon-Ready Blacktop for Locals

SALIGAO: Saligao MLA Kedar Naik on Thursday inaugurated the commencement of hotmixing and premixing works for roads in Ward No. II, kicking off a long-pending revamp aimed at smoother connectivity and enhanced safety for residents ahead of the monsoon. The works, covering key internal stretches in the ward, will replace pothole-ridden surfaces with fresh blacktop to improve ride quality for two-wheelers, school buses, and emergency vehicles. Locals have repeatedly flagged the roads for dust, waterlogging, and accidents, especially during the rains. Addressing residents at the site, Naik said the upgrade was part of a phased village-wide road improvement plan. “Good roads are not a luxury. They mean children reach school safely, ambulances don’t get stuck, and businesses run without delays. Ward II will see monsoon-ready roads this year,” he said.

Joining the MLA were Saligao Sarpanch Lucas Remedios, Dy. Sarpanch Utkarsha Kudnekar, Panch members Geeta Rane and Ramdas Konadkar, BJP General Secretary Deepak Rane, and BJP Saligao Mahila Morcha President Neha Kerkar, along with several ward residents. Sarpanch Remedios said the panchayat had pushed for the works after multiple gram sabha resolutions and thanked the MLA for sanctioning funds.

Contractors at the site said the premixing and hotmixing process will be completed in stages to minimise traffic disruption, with priority given to stretches near homes, schools, and the main access routes. The panchayat has also asked residents to report any water pipeline leaks before the final layer is laid to avoid future digging.

The Ward II revamp is the latest in a series of micro-infrastructure projects in Saligao, where the panchayat and MLA have focused on drainage, footpaths, and street lighting over the past year.

Residents present at the inauguration said they would monitor quality closely. “We’ve waited through three monsoons. This time the work has to last,” said a senior resident.
