High-class football powers Candolim into Candolim Cup semifinals
CANDOLIM: A dominant first-half display powered Candolim Sports Club into the semifinals of the Candolim Cup as they outclassed St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna-Siolim 4-1 in the third quarterfinal on Sunday.
Candolim SC pressed high from kickoff and took an early lead when winger Royce Gonsalves slotted home in the 7th minute. Sidharth Kalangutkar doubled the advantage with a composed finish in the 15th, before midfielder Durgesh made it 3-0 with a strike in the 25th minute, effectively killing the contest before halftime.Mascarenhas added gloss to the scoreline in the 58th minute, converting from close range to complete the rout. St Anthony’s pulled one back through Dwayne Noronha, but Candolim’s back line held firm to see out a comfortable win.
