Mapusa Fire services averts disaster to family after Tree Crashes on their House at Anjuna,
Mapusa: A tree fell on a house at Zhor Wafo, Anjuna, near Pratima Govekar’s residence on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a quick response from the Mapusa Fire Station.The incident occurred at 13:43 hrs, with locals immediately alerting the fire services. A team from Mapusa Fire Station, led by Shri D. S. Sawant, rushed to the spot with equipment to clear the fallen tree.Fire personnel cut and removed the tree from the damaged portion of the house, ensuring no one was trapped under the debris. No casualties or injuries were reported. Officials said strong winds and saturated soil from recent showers may have weakened the tree’s roots.
The house sustained partial damage to the roof and upper wall. Shri Sawant confirmed that the site was secured and cleared within an hour to prevent further risk to the occupants and neighbouring houses. “Our priority was to remove the tree safely and check for structural damage. The family has been advised to stay clear of the affected area until repairs are done,” he said.Residents of Zhor Wafo have raised concerns over old trees close to houses in the ward and urged the panchayat to conduct a safety audit before the peak monsoon.
