Mapusa Fire services Douse Two Back-to-Back Blazes in 24 Hours

Mapusa April 20 Fire personnel from Mapusa Fire Station battled two separate vegetation fires in less than 24 hours, preventing damage to nearby shops and residential properties At around 22:17 hrs on Sunday  dry bushes near Atmaram Hotel, opposite Govekar Bakery at Khorlim, Mapusa, caught fire Flames were reported close to commercial establishments, raising alarm among locals.

Mapusa Fire Station responded immediately under Leading Firefighter Shri Suraj Shetgaonkar. The crew arrived with a fire tender and contained the blaze within 15 minutes using high-pressure hose lines. Officials said quick cooling of the area stopped re-ignition and ensured no damage to the hotel, bakery, or adjoining structures. No injuries were reported. On monday  morning at 10:19 hrs, a field near Palm Set Villa, St Diago Church, Morod-Sangolda, caught fire due to dry grass and rising temperatures. Smoke was visible from the main road, prompting multiple calls to the fire control room .The Mapusa fire team, again led by Leading Firefighter Suraj Shetgaonkar, reached the spot within minutes. Firefighters created fire breaks and used beaters along with water jets to douse the flames. The fire was brought under control before it could spread to the nearby villa and church premises.

Fire Services Action & Advisory Fire officials confirmed both incidents were restricted to vegetation with no structural loss or casualties. “Rapid response and proper line control were key. We appeal to citizens not to burn dry waste and to report smoke immediately,” said a Mapusa Fire Station official. With summer heat intensifying, the Fire Department has urged residents to clear dry bushes around homes and commercial units
