Mapusa Fire Team averts major fire disaster Near New Bus Stand after waste catches fire;

Mapusa, April 15: A fire that broke out in a pile of waste near the New Bus Stand, Mapusa, on Tuesday afternoon was brought under control within minutes thanks to the rapid response of the Mapusa Fire Services. The incident was reported at 14:48 HRS, after thick smoke was seen billowing near the busy commuter hub. A fire tender from Mapusa Fire Station, led by Sub Officer Shri Dnyaneshwar Sawant, rushed to the spot and immediately cordoned off the area to ensure public safety. Firefighters found burning waste emitting dense smoke, posing a risk to nearby shops, parked vehicles, and hundreds of commuters who frequent the bus stand daily. Using high-pressure water jets, the crew doused the flames and carried out cooling operations to prevent re-ignition, especially crucial given the summer heat and dry conditions.
