Suta launches first international store in Mauritius
Indian womenswear brand Suta has launched its first international brick-and-mortar store. Located at Cœur de Ville in Mauritius’ Grand Bay, the store measures 410 square feet and retails a wide range of traditional and fusion wear, including the brand’s signature sarees.
“Opening our first international store feels incredibly special. From humble beginnings to reaching global milestones, our journey has been built on belief, resilience, and the strength of our community,” said Suta co-founder Sujata Biswas in a press release on Tuesday. “Mauritius felt like the perfect place to take this step, as it carries a beautiful cultural connection with India while welcoming global influences.”
Located inside a shopping centre, the store mixes a cement textured façade with an antique-style light fixture and vibrant mural wall. In addition to its apparel, the store offers curated customer service, an in-store tailor, lifetime alteration services, and customisation options to create an immersive retail experience.
“Suta has always been more than just a brand; it is a story of dreams stitched together with courage and community,” said Suta co-founder Taniya Biswas. “Taking Suta beyond India is not just about expansion, it’s about sharing our love for handcrafted drapes with the world. This store is a celebration of how far we have come and the many stories we hope to create globally.”
Entrepreneurial sisters Sujata and Taniya Biswas founded Suta in 2016 with the aim of reviving handcrafted textiles with a contemporary approach. The brand works with over 17,000 artisans across India and counts over 20 experiential stores pan-India in cities including Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Pune, and Kochi among others.
