Corlim PDA colony sewage, ownership issues to be resolved: Faldessai

Panaji: An official inspection was conducted at the PDA Colony in Corlim on Tuesday to address long-standing infrastructural grievances. The site visit included Chairman of the Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation Ltd (SIDCGL) Sankalp Amonkar, Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board (GRB), and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai, alongside Panch Members Viresh Asolkar, Chandrashekhar Kankonkar, senior citizen Tatu Gawas, department officials and local residents.

Amonkar assured MLA Faldessai that the colony’s sewage issues would be addressed within the next six months. The project involves providing 203 house connections and the installation of a 200 KLD (kilolitres per day) treatment plant.

Plans and estimates for the work, totalling Rs 2.5 crore have already been finalised, he said. Highlighting the urgency of the situation, the Chairman said that sewage is currently being released into open gutters and water bodies.

“Faldessai was after me continuously following up to take up this inspection. He was saying this was a genuine issue as there is a sewage problem and no connection for the colony. This was being released in the gutter and water,” he said.

The Chairman further commended the MLA’s dedication, revealing that Faldessai had offered to finance the project personally to bypass administrative delays.

“Hats off to him as government procedure takes up, he takes up such works using his own funds. However, I assured him that he can spend those funds for another cause; I told him that as I am chairman of the corporation, it is my responsibility to get the work done. So before elections, all procedures will be completed. It will take at least six months for formalities to be completed,” Amonkar added.

Regarding the legal ownership of flats within the colony, Amonkar praised Faldessai’s unique initiative in this area, noting that no other MLA has taken similar steps in other PDA colonies across Goa.

“He has even started the process for ownership of the flats in the colony, which is noteworthy. In Mormugao, as chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board, he has resolved ownership of flats at GRB colony. There were many issues like even sewage there, which he has resolved. He has got the ownership issue resolved even before the Mhaje Ghar scheme was introduced,” he said.

Urging continued support for the legislator, Amonkar described Faldessai as “hardworking, young, and dynamic,” adding, “Vote for him as he is selfless and works hard for the people. He has the daring and capability to get the works done.”

Faldessai reassured residents that efforts are underway to commence work on the sewage system before the monsoon.

“I wanted this work to be done during this term itself. This problem has been there for the past 40 years. I was ready to spend my own funds, but the chairman is my friend and has assured me to get the work done through the department. I am sure that this issue will be resolved before the elections,” he said.

Addressing the legal status of the residents’ homes, Faldessai confirmed that the matter has reached the highest levels of state government. “Regarding the ownership of flats issue, we have met the CM and even at the TCP [Town and Country Planning) board meeting. I am on the TCP Board, and I have apprised the TCP Minister on this. And by March the ownership will be resolved. I am constantly following up on this issue,” he said.
