Goa to Host World-Class IRF Street Race Weekend at Mopa
Mopa 9th February: Goa is all set to script a landmark chapter in Indian motorsport with the hosting of the IRF Goa Street Race Weekend, a world-class street racing spectacle that will bring high-adrenaline motorsport action to the state.
Highlighting Goa’s unique appeal, Akhilesh Reddy, Chairman of Racing Promotions Pvt Ltd (RPPL) and Indian Racing Festival (IRF), said that the state’s vibrant culture, strong tourism infrastructure and global recognition make it an ideal destination for an event of this scale.
“Goa’s cosmopolitan character, excellent connectivity and status as a year-round leisure hotspot make it the perfect host for a marquee motorsport event like the IRF Street Race. Hosting this round allows us to merge elite racing with mainstream lifestyle appeal while spotlighting Goa on the global sporting calendar,” he said.
Reddy, who has been closely involved in the planning of the street circuit, explained that transforming city roads into a competitive racing venue requires meticulous coordination and precision. The Goa Street Circuit at Manohar International Airport, Mopa, spans 2.064 km and features 12turns, designed in collaboration with technical partners and FIA-standard safety consultants.
“The challenge lies in balancing safety, racing quality and spectator experience. From temporary barriers and debris fencing to surface transitions and sightlines, every element has been engineered to meet international standards,” he added.
Speaking on the larger impact, Reddy noted that the IRF Goa Street Race Weekend positions both India and Goa alongside iconic global street-racing destinations.
“This event is not just a race; it is a statement of intent. It demonstrates India’s readiness to host international-standard motorsport events and reinforces Goa’s capability to deliver world-class sporting spectacles that attract global attention,” he said.
The event is also expected to generate significant economic and tourism benefits for the state. With increased footfall across hotels, food and beverage outlets, transport services and local retail, the street race weekend is set to provide a boost to the hospitality and allied sectors, particularly during the mid-February period. Global broadcast exposure will further enhance Goa’s brand value as a destination for major sporting and entertainment events.
Addressing safety, Reddy emphasised that it remains a top priority for IRF adding, “The circuit has been developed with FIA-standard temporary infrastructure, including reinforced barriers, advanced crash protection systems, dedicated medical and rescue teams, and comprehensive safety protocols for drivers, teams and spectators. Rigorous pre-event testing and continuous monitoring during race days will ensure world-class safety standards throughout the weekend.”
Acknowledging the role of the state, Reddy praised the Goa government and local authorities for their proactive support.
“Their cooperation in planning, permissions and infrastructure has been exceptional. This shared vision for tourism growth and sports promotion has made it possible to bring a temporary street circuit to life at Mopa and ensure seamless coordination across departments,” he said.

Off the track, the weekend promises a festival-like experience with merchandise, food and beverage offerings and immersive fan engagements celebrating motorsport culture.
