Panaji, December 24: In a momentous ceremony, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated the newly-renamed ‘Atal Stadium’ at Cujira, St. Cruz, paying tribute to the late statesman Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The event, organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and Sports Authority of Goa, was attended by Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Shri. Ramesh Tawadkar, and other dignitaries.

The renaming ceremony marks a significant milestone in Goa’s sporting history, underscoring the state’s commitment to honoring national leaders who have made significant contributions to the country’s development. “Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision, leadership, and dedication to nation-building will continue to inspire generations of Goans and sports enthusiasts,” said Dr. Sawant.

The Athletic Stadium, now Atal Stadium, is a premier sports hub in Goa, hosting numerous national and international events. The stadium has been a launching pad for several talented athletes, and the renaming is expected to further boost sports development in the state.

Minister Tawadkar highlighted the importance of sports in shaping youth and promoting national integration. “The Atal Stadium will be a symbol of excellence and a testament to Goa’s passion for sports,” he said.
