Vasai Crime Branch Busts Inter-State Online Betting Racket Operating from Goa; 9 Arrested
PANAJI: In a major crackdown on illegal online betting, the Vasai Crime Branch has arrested nine persons for allegedly operating a betting racket from Goa linked to cricket, football and other sports. According to police, the accused were operating the network using bank accounts and SIM cards registered in the names of other persons to route betting transactions and evade detection. The action began with a raid at a premises in Naigaon East, Vasai. During interrogation and subsequent technical investigation, the trail led the police to North Goa, where additional suspects were apprehended
.During the operation, police seized a large haul of material, including 33 mobile phones, four laptops, 78 passbooks and chequebooks, 69 ATM cards, 40 SIM cards, two CCTV cameras and other equipment. The total value of the seizure is estimated at around Rs 19.86 lakh.Police said further investigation is underway to trace the money trail, identify the bank accounts used and nab other persons linked to the racket.
