Goa CM Sawant Joins 57th GST Council Meet at Bharat Mandapam; Major Reforms on Agenda
Panaji / Oct 8: Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant joined the 57th Meeting of the GST Council at the Summit Room, Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on Thursday
The high-powered Council meeting is being chaired by Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, in the presence of Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, Finance Ministers of all States and UTs and senior officials. The meeting, which is being held after a gap of over a year,
Sources said this 57th Council is set to be a reform-oriented meeting, with focus on easing business compliance rather than rate changes. Key proposals on the agenda include:
Removal of arrest provisions under GST law and raising prosecution threshold from Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore Protecting buyers’ Input Tax Credit (ITC) if they have valid invoice and proof of payment, even if supplier defaults Faster refunds for exporters with 90% automatic release after risk check CM Sawant’s presence is significant as Goa, being a tourism and MSME-driven state, has been pitching for simpler compliance and faster refunds for hospitality and small traders
