Tourist Rescue at Rough Sea: High-Intensity Cyclone Mock Drill Conducted at Candolim Beach
Calangute: In view of the Multi-State Mock Exercise on Cyclone and Induced Disasters to be conducted in Goa, a special cyclone scenario drill was conducted at Candolim Beach, Bardez, on Thursday focusing on the rescue of tourists from the sea. The exercise simulated a cyclonic situation where tourists were stranded in rough sea waters. The rescue teams swiftly swung into action, demonstrating coordinated search and rescue operations, evacuation procedures and emergency medical response. The drill aimed at testing the preparedness, inter-departmental coordination and quick response capabilities of various agencies including the District Administration, Disaster Management Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Coast Guard and lifeguard personnel
.Officials said such mock exercises are crucial to identify gaps in disaster response and to ensure the safety of tourists and coastal residents during actual cyclonic events. The exercise was conducted successfully with active participation of all stakeholders.
