Panaji, September 7, 2026: Eight decades of distinguished service by Goa Police received a prestigious national recognition today. Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah presented the President’s Colour to Goa Police at a ceremony held at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Bambolim. The honour recognises the force’s professionalism, courage, discipline and dedication to service.

The President’s Colour, one of the highest honours bestowed upon a police force in India, recognises the contribution of generations of Goa Police personnel and their families and acknowledges the force’s sustained commitment to Shaurya, Suraksha aur Seva. Over eight decades, Goa Police has played a vital role in maintaining law and order, protecting citizens, safeguarding Goa’s coastline and contributing to national security. The recognition also reflects its continued efforts towards modern, technology-enabled and citizen-centric policing.

Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Shri. Amit Shah said the President’s Colour was a matter of immense pride and recognition of Goa Police’s eight decades of glorious service, professionalism, courage, discipline and dedication. He congratulated Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, the Goa Police leadership and the entire force, and praised its role in securing Goa’s cities, communities and extensive coastline. He said the force’s contribution to protecting Goa also strengthens the country’s internal and coastal security, particularly in a state that attracts visitors from across India and the world.

Shri. Shah lauded Goa Police’s technology-driven policing initiatives, particularly the launch of the AI-powered 1930 Cyber Crime Helpline, saying Goa has moved a step ahead in cybercrime response. He highlighted its multilingual AI Voice Assistant, which enables complaint registration in languages including Konkani, Marathi, Hindi and Gujarati. He also praised the reduction in emergency response time from 18 minutes to around 8 minutes, the rise in the conviction rate from around 30 per cent to nearly 60 per cent, and Goa Police’s implementation of the three new criminal laws. Referring to the Centre’s 2026 to 2028 anti-narcotics roadmap, he urged Goa Police to take a leading role in the fight against drugs and encouraged the force to excel in sports and fitness.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said the President’s Colour is not merely an honour for Goa Police but a matter of pride for the entire people of Goa. He said the recognition is a testament to the force’s contribution towards protecting the state, ensuring the safety of citizens and safeguarding national unity and integrity. He added that the presence of Amit Shah made the occasion even more significant, while the blessings of religious leaders from four faiths reflected the spirit of India’s unity and integrity.

Dr. Sawant said that since the launch of Swayampurna Goa in 2020, the state has focused not only on development but also on strengthening and modernising its security infrastructure. With the nature of crime evolving rapidly, Goa Police has been equipped with modern technology and advanced systems to respond effectively to emerging challenges such as cybercrime and cyber fraud. He highlighted the contribution of the Pink Force, praising women police personnel for their dedication and prompt response in ensuring the safety of women and children, and said Goa Police continues to effectively discharge its responsibilities along the coastline, state borders and other sensitive areas.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone in Goa Police’s eight-decade journey and reaffirmed its commitment to modern, technology-enabled and people-centric policing. The presentation of the President’s Colour also honoured the service and sacrifices of generations of Goa Police personnel and their families and inspired the force to continue its pursuit of excellence in the service of Goa and the nation.

The ceremony was attended by Union Minister of State Shripad Naik, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar, Minister Digambar Kamat, Minister Mauvin Godinho and Minister Vishwajit Rane, Goa Police Superintendent Alok Kumar, senior police officers, public representatives and personnel of the Goa Police.
