We Must Preserve Konkani, Journalism & Culture For Next Generation”: Calangutre MLA Michael Lobo

Calangute : Stressing the need to safeguard Goa’s language and journalistic traditions, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Sunday called for continued efforts to honour those who dedicated their lives to Konkani literature and culture.Speaking at the 73rd Birth Anniversary commemoration of Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa and the Gulab & Felicio Cardoso Journalism Award function at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, Lobo said Fr. Freddy’s life was a reminder of the power of words in shaping Goan identity.“It was a privilege to be part of this occasion celebrating the legacy of Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa,” Lobo said.


“It is important that we continue to honour those who have dedicated their lives to preserving our language, culture and the spirit of journalism. The work of Fr. Freddy and today’s awardees inspires the younger generation to take pride in Konkani.”

The MLA noted that journalists and writers play a crucial role in keeping democracy and culture alive, especially in a small state like Goa where regional language media is the voice of the people. The event saw the presentation of the Gulab & Felicio Cardoso Journalism Awards to media persons and writers for their contributions to Konkani journalism and literature.

Senior journalists, litterateurs, family members and cultural activists attended.Lobo congratulated all recipients and lauded the organisers for keeping alive the memory of Fr. Freddy, described as a journalist, writer and cultural activist who championed Konkani.
