From Scholarships to Sports: Vedanta Iron And Steel Limited Creating Opportunities for India’s Youth
August 12, 2026: While young people grow up in different circumstances, their aspirations are often the same: to learn, build meaningful careers and create a better future. Reflecting this, the International Youth Day 2026 theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” highlights the need for equitable access to education, skills, technology and opportunities.
For Vedanta Iron And Steel Limited, this commitment is deeply relevant. Across Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Odisha and Jharkhand, the company works with communities to help young people overcome barriers to opportunity through initiatives that promote education, employability, digital skills, and sports, enabling them to pursue their aspirations with confidence.
Speaking on International Youth Day, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, CEO, Vedanta Iron And Steel Ltd, said: “The youth are the future of our Nation and deserve the opportunity to realise their potential. At Vedanta Iron And Steel Ltd, we see our role as a long-term partner in the holistic progress of the communities, endeavouring to give back meaningfully with the aim of bridging the gap between aspiration and opportunity. Through initiatives in the field of education, technical skills, digital access, sport and vocational training, we remain committed to nurturing talent, determination and ambition and to play our part in shaping the future of our youth.”
Through the Vedanta Utkarsh Scholarship, more than 1,800 students across states have been supported in pursuing higher education and professional courses, helping talent overcome socio-economic barriers and build brighter futures. Additionally, the Sesa Technical School (Goa) and Vedanta ESL Skill School (Bokaro) have equipped over 2,800 youth with industry-relevant technical skills, enhancing employability and creating pathways to sustainable livelihoods. Sesa Technical School has given me more than mere technical skills. It gave me confidence, value of discipline, and a clear direction in life. The training and mentorship I received prepared me in an all-round manner, today, while I work hard as an entrepreneur, I owe this transformation to the strong foundation laid at STS.” said Laxman Dalvi, STS Alumnus from the 2018 batch.
Recognising that digital inclusion has become as fundamental as literacy itself, Vedanta Iron And Steel Limited , under the aegis of the Anil Agarwal Foundation, upports communities in bridging the digital divide with the Vedanta Computer Labs, Vedanta Computer Centres across Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka, and the AAS Centre Vidyalaya in Jharkhand. These initiatives are nurturing IT-enabled youth & opening pathways to employment and entrepreneurship in regions where such facilities are often unavailable.
Beyond classrooms, Vedanta Iron And Steel Ltd fosters sporting talent at the Sesa Football Academy and the ESL Archery Academy, helping creating life-changing opportunities for boys and girls from underserved communities. 14 boys and girls from SFA have gone on to represent India internationally, while the archers at the ESL Archery Academy have won over 200 medals at various levels nationally. For many young athletes, these academies provide access not only to professional coaching and world-class facilities, but also to confidence, discipline, education and the possibility of building a future through sport. Simran Narvekar , a resident of Maem, Goa, and a member of the SFA Senior Women’s Team reflects on her journey, “The exposure that I have had at the SFA through participation in he Vedanta Women’s League , Indian Women’s League-2, and the Indian Women’s League has been a huge learning experience for me. This has helped me improve my game, gain confidence, and to dream bigger. SFA has provided me with the mentorship, platform and support to grow both as a player & as an individual.”
Together, these initiatives reflect Vedanta Iron & Steel Limited’s belief that while contexts may differ, aspirations deserve equal opportunity. By investing in education, skills, digital access and sport, the company is helping young people realise their potential while contributing to stronger communities and a more inclusive future.
