BJP Goa Government did not even spared Yoga Day, Chikhal Kalo and Sao Joao festival: Congress
Panaji: Alleging that the BJP Government is finding opportunities in every event to loot the exchequer, Congress Media Chief Amarnath Panjikar on Friday said that the Bhrasht Jumala Party has not even spared Yoga Day, Chikhal Kalo and the São João festival from corruption.
Amarnath Panjikar, along with Congress OBC Department Chairman Sharad Chopdekar and former Priol Block President Hemant Naik, addressed a press conference and alleged that crores of rupees have been looted by the BJP through these events.
“BJP had advised our President Girish Chodankar to practice Yoga for mental balance when he objected to compulsory attendance for Yoga Day. Actually, this practice teaches us truth and discipline, but the way BJP is using unparliamentary words and looting public money shows they are not practicing Yoga,” Panjikar said.
“I am confident that the mental balance of BJP is shaken. Their ministers are using unparliamentary words and are involved in corruption. BJP minister even said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is 100 per cent ‘Nishkriya’. This is happening because they have lost mental balance,” he added.
Panjikar said that the reply given to an RTI query on Yoga Day expenditure makes it evident that the government is looting public money. “Without an estimated cost or floating a tender, this event was conducted. We had asked for details, but the reply was ‘Information Not Available’. There is no transparency, as the government has even failed to provide details of expenditure incurred on photography and videography,” he said.
“The BJP Government should clarify why there are no details of this event. Why was there no estimated cost or tender? This is nothing but theft and loot,” Panjikar alleged.
He further said that the government spent Rs 90 lakh on the São João event held at Siolim. “This is a traditional festival, and villagers of Siolim organise it themselves. They arrange funds and manage the event. We want to know where the government spent these lakhs of rupees,” Panjikar pointed out.
He also claimed that the government spent Rs 1.80 crore on the Chikhal Kalo festival at Marcel. “This is another fraud by the government, where crores of rupees were spent. The estimated cost of the event was only Rs 1.49 crore, but we have come to know that more than that was spent. This robbery was done in front of God and in the name of God,” Panjikar said.
Panjikar further alleged that the government looted public money through the Sarkar Tumchya Dari program. “They conducted this program for the BJP party, to woo votes,” he said.
