Goa’s MPLADS for Uttar Pradesh? BJP MP Sadanand Tanavade Must Explain This Betrayal of Goa’s Interests
Panaji: Chairman of the Media & Communication Department of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, Amarnath Panjikar, has strongly criticised BJP Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Mhalu Shet Tanavade for recommending ₹48.60 lakh from his MPLADS funds for the installation of LED High Mast Poles in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, while several critical development projects in Goa continue to remain neglected.
Amarnath Panjikar questioned the BJP MP’s priorities, stating that Goans elected Shri Tanavade to represent Goa—not to finance development works in another State. When schools, primary health centres, sports facilities, community halls, roads, public lighting and other essential infrastructure across Goa require urgent attention, diverting MPLADS funds outside the State is completely unjustifiable.
Panjikar further pointed out that the MP’s overall MPLADS performance has also been disappointing. Publicly available data shows that only 6 out of 29 sanctioned projects have been completed, with a completion rate of just 17.1% and fund utilisation of only 19.4%. “These figures expose poor utilisation of public funds, misplaced priorities and a complete lack of commitment towards Goa’s development,” he said.
He also questioned Shri Tanavade’s effectiveness in Parliament, stating that Goa deserves a Rajya Sabha MP who consistently raises the State’s issues, safeguards its interests and ensures maximum utilisation of public resources for the benefit of Goans.
Amarnath Panjikar demanded that Shri Tanavade and the BJP answer the following questions before the people of Goa:
* Why was Goa’s MPLADS allocation spent on a project in Uttar Pradesh?
* Have all development needs of Goa been fulfilled?
* Why has the MP failed to fully utilise his MPLADS funds despite Goa’s pressing infrastructure requirements?
“Goa deserves a Member of Parliament who spends for Goa, speaks for Goa and fights for Goa. The people of Goa will not accept an MP who neglects his own State while funding development elsewhere,” Panjikar asserted.
