*Over 100 Famers Set to Benefit through VISL’s ‘Back to Farming’ initiative in Piligao*
VISL Iron Ore Goa (VISL–IOG), as part of its CSR initiative, Project ‘Back to Farming’, and in collaboration with NGO Vanarai and the PHD Rural Development Foundation (PHDRDF), inaugurated fencing support at Bagwada and Dhatwada in Piligao, covering 1,21,000 sq. m. of agricultural land. The programme also marked the inauguration of the Smart Village Centre at Piligao, a first-of-its-kind facility that will directly benefit over 100 farmers by providing access to modern agricultural technologies and advisory services.
The programme was graced by Shri Premendra Shet, Hon’ble MLA for Maem Constituency, as the Chief Guest, in the presence of Mr. Dhirajkumar Jagdish, Dy. CEO, VISL–IOG, along with village panchayat members, farmers, community representatives and company executives.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Premendra Shet, Hon’ble MLA for Maem Constituency, said, “I appreciate Vedanta Iron and Steel Limited, Vanarai, and PHDRDF for this meaningful initiative that strengthens our farming communities. The Back to Farming initiative and Smart Village Centre will equip farmers with modern agricultural practices and technology, paving the way for sustainable growth and improved livelihoods.”
Mr. Dhirajkumar Jagdish, Dy. CEO, VISL–IOG, said, “At VISL Iron Ore Goa, we believe that sustainable community development begins with strengthening local livelihoods. The Smart Village Centre, together with the fencing support, reflects our commitment to empowering farming communities, improving agricultural outcomes, and creating long-term socio-economic value for the region.”
The Smart Village Centre has been established as a one-stop resource hub to promote technology-led and sustainable farming practices. The centre will offer services such as soil testing, satellite-based farm mapping, microbial production for low-cost organic fertilizers, and expert agricultural guidance aimed at improving productivity, reducing input costs, and enhancing farmers’ incomes. With this latest intervention.
Project ‘Back to Farming’ is focused on supporting farming communities & promoting sustainable and scientific as well as tech drive agricultural practices. As part of the initiative, approx 5,21,000 sqm of agricultural land across Bicholim Taluka has been covered under various initiatives , reaffirming VISL–IOG’s commitment to strengthening rural livelihoods and fostering sustainable community development.
