GSPCB Holds Poster Contest for Children Ahead of World Environment Day

Saligao: The Goa State Pollution Control Board organised a poster competition for children on Tuesday as part of the pre-event activities leading up to World Environment Day on June 5.The competition, held at the GSPCB office in Saligao, saw enthusiastic participation from students across schools in North and South Goa. The theme for this year’s contest was “Beat Plastic Pollution,” in line with the United Nations’ focus for World Environment Day 2026.

Children from age groups 8 to 16 years used colours and creativity to highlight issues like plastic waste, beach pollution, climate change, and the importance of recycling. The young artists were judged on originality, relevance to the theme, and visual impact.

Speaking at the event, a senior GSPCB official said the objective was to sensitise young minds towards environmental conservation and make them stakeholders in Goa’s fight against pollution. “Children are the best ambassadors for change. Through art, they express concern for the planet and inspire adults to act,” the official said.

Winners of the competition will be felicitated at the main World Environment Day function to be held on June 5. All participants received certificates of appreciation. The GSPCB has lined up several activities this week, including beach clean-up drives, tree plantation programmes, and awareness workshops, to mark World Environment Day 2026.
