CM SAWANT TAKES STOCK OF ASSONORA BYPASS WORK, PUSHES FOR DEADLINE-BOUND COMPLETION
Mapusa : Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Tuesday conducted a site inspection of the Assonora Bypass, reviewing on-ground progress and directing officials to fast-track execution to ease traffic bottlenecks in North Goa’s Bardez taluka.Walking the stretch with engineers and PWD officials, the Chief Minister assessed key segments of the project, including land acquisition patches, drainage work, and road alignment.
He stressed that the bypass is crucial to decongest Assonora village and streamline vehicular movement on the Mapusa-Bicholim corridor, which sees heavy mining and tourist traffic.“Timely execution is non-negotiable. This project will cut travel time, reduce accidents in village interiors, and support local commerce,” Dr. Sawant told officials at the site.
He instructed the department to submit weekly progress reports and resolve inter-departmental bottlenecks on priority.
The Assonora Bypass has been a long-pending demand of locals, with residents raising concerns over heavy vehicles passing through narrow village roads, causing safety hazards and dust pollution. Once completed, the bypass is expected to divert inter-town traffic away from the Assonora market area, benefiting commuters and shopkeepers alike.Officials briefed the CM on the current status of earthwork, culverts, and pending utility shifting.
Dr. Sawant also interacted with locals who gathered at the site, assuring them that the government is monitoring the project closely. The bypass is part of the state’s broader push to upgrade hinterland road infrastructure and improve last-mile connectivity between North Goa’s industrial and tourism hubs.
