8th Goa-Sindhudurg Day-Night Cricket Fest Begins at Bodgeshwar Ground Mapusa

Mapusa, April 16: The floodlights at Bodgeshwar Ground Mapusa weren’t the only thing blazing on Friday evening. Bats cracked, crowds roared, and the border between Goa and Maharashtra blurred into one sporting family as the 8th All Goa & Sindhudurg Taluka Day & Night Cricket Tournament was inaugurated by Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza.

Organised by S K Jogging Cricketers, the tournament has grown from a local fixture into a cross-coast tradition, drawing club teams from across Goa and Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district for a week of hard tennis-ball cricket under lights.

“It’s great to see such enthusiastic participation and a lively sporting spirit,” said MLA D’Souza, taking a ceremonial swing after the inauguration.

“Tournaments like this build fitness, friendships, and the Mapusa brand as a sports hub.” Tourism Minister & Porvorim MLA Rohan A. Khaunte joined the opening, underlining the event’s potential to blend sports with tourism.

“Day-night cricket in the heart of Mapusa brings visitors, energy, and local business. besides Mapusa MLA  Also present were Siolim ZP Member Shri Maheshwar M. Govekar, Ex-Sarpanch & V.P. Verla Canca Panch Member Smt. Aarti Pravin Chari, along with organisers, coaches, players, and a packed stand of supporters.
