Forest Rights Push in Canacona: Kushavati DLC Takes Up 50 Fresh Claims from Gaondongrem
Kushavati — In a significant move towards securing forest rights for traditional dwellers, a meeting of the District Level Committee (DLC) under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, was held today under the chairmanship of the Collector, Kushavati District, Shri Gurudas S. T. Desai.The meeting was convened to examine and decide on 50 fresh Forest Rights claims submitted by claimants from Gaondongrem village in Canacona Taluka.
The claims have been filed under the provisions of the Forest Rights Act, 2006, which recognises the rights of forest dwelling communities over land and other resources.The meeting was attended by the Deputy Conservator of Forests, South & Kushavati District, the Deputy Conservator of Forests, Wildlife & Eco-Tourism, South & Kushavati Division, the Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate / Sub-Divisional Level Committee (SDLC), Canacona, and the Zilla Panchayat Member representing Sanvordem.
Officials deliberated in detail on each claim, verifying documents, field reports and recommendations placed by the SDLC, to ensure that eligible claimants receive their rightful entitlements as per the Act.
