Goa Fights Cancer at Doorstep: CM Launches Mobile Detection Van and Statewide Abhiyan

Bicholim : In a major push to make cancer screening accessible to every Goan, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Friday launched the Cancer Detection Abhiyan and flagged off the Mobile Cancer Detection Van at Sankhali. The initiative has been organised by Matoshri Padmini Educational Society in collaboration with Goa Medical College & Hospital, Directorate of Health Services and other participating institutions.

The Mobile Cancer Detection Van is essentially a hospital on wheels, equipped with screening facilities that will travel to remote villages, panchayats and talukas, ensuring that people who cannot reach GMC or district hospitals can still get tested early.Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister stressed that early detection is the key to winning the battle against cancer. Many lives are lost in Goa because cancer is detected at a late stage. This Abhiyan aims to change that by creating awareness and taking screening to the people’s doorsteps, he said. The Abhiyan will focus on screening for common cancers, including oral, breast and cervical cancer, and will also conduct awareness camps in schools, colleges and village panchayats. With lifestyle diseases on the rise, the government said this initiative reflects its commitment to preventive healthcare and strengthening the public health system beyond hospital walls. The van will now begin its journey across the state, starting from Sankhali.
