PANCHAYAT MINISTER MAUVIN GODINHO LEADS MEGA BEACH CLEANLINESS DRIVE AT BOGMALO
25 Goan beaches covered under International Coastal Cleanup Day initiative
Vasco – Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho led a major beach cleanliness drive at Bogmalo Beach on Saturday to mark International Coastal Cleanup Day. The drive was organized by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in collaboration with the local administration, Lions Club and Vibrant Goa Foundation. The state-wide initiative was simultaneously carried out across 25 beaches in Goa with an aim to promote a cleaner and greener coastline. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Coast Guard personnel, panchayat members, students, volunteers of Lions Club and Vibrant Goa Foundation, and local residents. Several kilograms of plastic waste, discarded fishing nets and other debris were collected from the shoreline.Speaking on the occasion, Minister Mauvin Godinho lauded the efforts of the Indian Coast Guard and collaborating organizations for mobilizing citizens towards coastal conservation. He stressed that Goa’s beaches are its identity and economic backbone, and keeping them clean is a collective responsibility.


“Clean beaches mean clean Goa. This drive is not just about picking up waste, but about creating awareness. If we want to protect our tourism and our marine ecosystem, we must stop single-use plastic and keep our coastline pristine. I appeal to every Goan to become a beach guardian,” Godinho said.Officials from the Indian Coast Guard said that International Coastal Cleanup Day is observed globally to tackle marine pollution, and Goa’s extensive participation reflects the state’s commitment to environmental protection .The Minister also interacted with volunteers and appreciated the involvement of youth and NGOs in making the campaign a grand success. The drive concluded with a pledge to maintain the cleanliness and ecological balance of Goan beaches.
