QR-Based Fare System to Bring Transparency in Taxi Operations: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo
Calangute – Stating that the proposed QR-based fare system for taxis is a positive step towards greater transparency, MLA Michael lobo said that the system will allow passengers to easily check officially notified fares and help create a fairer system for both commuters and local operators. Lobo was speaking after meeting with taxi and rent-a-car operators and discussing several important issues concerning the sector, road safety and the livelihoods of thousands of Goan families.
“A uniform fare structure can reduce confusion, build greater trust with visitors and strengthen Goa’s transport and tourism ecosystem,” he said. He also said that rent-a-car operators should not be unfairly blamed for accidents caused by individuals who choose to drink and drive or drive irresponsibly. “There must be strict action against drunk and reckless driving, while genuine operators should be allowed to conduct their businesses without unnecessary targeting,” lobo said.
He further stated that the taxi and rent-a-car community plays an important role in Goa’s tourism economy and supports thousands of livelihoods. “I have always stood with them and will continue to work with the concerned officials to resolve their genuine issues, ensure proper regulation and find practical solutions that protect livelihoods while also ensuring safer roads and a better experience for everyone visiting Goa,” he further added.
