MICHAEL LOBO CHAMPIONS ‘ATMANIRBHAR WOMEN’ AT CALANGUTE CHATURTHI BAZAR; SAYS OPPOSITION MISLEADING GOANS ON FREE LPG PROMISE
Calangute: In a major boost to women empowerment ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, Hon’ble MLA of Calangute and Chairman of GSIDC, Shri Michael V. Lobo, inaugurated The Grand Chaturthi Bazar at Tinto, near Shri Shantadurga Devasthan, Calangute on Wednesday.The four-day bazar, organised by the BJP Calangute Mandal (Mahila Morcha) and fully supported by MLA Michael Lobo, will remain open from 9th to 12th September 2026, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.The bazar showcases a vibrant collection of festive essentials prepared by local women self-help groups, including eco-friendly Ganesh idols, Matoli items, flower garlands, torans, traditional sweets like modaks, nevris and laddus, decorative lights, festive clothing and handmade handicrafts.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Michael Lobo said such initiatives make women self-reliant and are the true spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat.Highlighting the government’s newly launched Goa Ujjwala Yojana, Lobo said the BJP government has fulfilled its 2022 promise of providing three free LPG cylinders annually. He informed that Rs. 3,000 will be directly transferred to beneficiaries’ accounts from September 9, with forms available at all 191 panchayats and with MLAs, without any income limit. Taking a sharp jibe at the opposition, Lobo said, “While we are delivering, the opposition is trying to gain mileage by misleading the public and spreading confusion about this pro-people scheme. People should not fall for false propaganda. “He appealed to the public to support local women entrepreneurs by visiting the bazar in large numbers.
ZP Member Franzila Rodrigues said, “This Bazar is a wonderful initiative by our Mahila Morcha to showcase talent. I thank MLA Michael Lobo for always standing behind women empowerment in Calangute.”
