Goa CM Says Over 90% Crimes Linked to Migrants, Stresses Tenant Verification Over CCTV

Porvorim: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant told the Goa Assembly that more than 90% of crimes in the state are linked to migrants, and said the government is strengthening tenant and labour verification as part of its crime-prevention measures.

He was responding to a question raised by MLA Viresh Borkar on why the government was not installing more CCTV cameras to help prevent crime. The Chief Minister said that CCTV cameras alone cannot stop criminal activity, pointing out that offenders are increasingly aware of surveillance systems and may attempt to disable or switch them off.”Just because CCTV is there does not mean crimes will reduce. Criminals are becoming smart and they know how to switch off or disable cameras,” Sawant said.

He said that verification of tenants and labourers remains an important component of the government’s strategy to prevent crime and strengthen security in the state.
