HDFC Bank staff help prevent Rs 1.12-crore ‘digital arrest’ fraud

MUMBAI: (Aug 27) The country’s largest private sector lender, HDFC Bank, on Thursday said its staff helped prevent a Rs 1.12 crore ‘digital arrest’ fraud on a senior citizen.

An employee at a branch in New Delhi’s Rohini noticed an elderly couple had come to liquidate fixed deposits of Rs 1.12 crore and was requesting to transfer the amount to an unknown third-party account.

Observing that both the senior citizens were anxious and constantly speaking to someone on a video call, bank staff felt something amiss and engaged with the customer to prevent the fraud from happening, as per an official statement.
