Saligao MLA Kedar Naik Calls for Preservation of Goan Heritage at First All-Goa Ghumat Aarti Competition ‘Ghumatnaad 1.0
‘Saligao : The traditional Goan percussion of the Ghumat reverberated at Ramnagar-Betim as the Shri Ram Nagar Cultural Board successfully organised the First All-Goa Ghumat Aarti Competition – Ghumatnaad 1.0.The unique cultural festival, aimed at reviving Goa’s fading musical traditions, was graced by Saligao MLA Kedar Naik as the Chief Guest.


Addressing the gathering, MLA Kedar Naik lauded the organizers for taking the initiative to preserve the Ghumat, which is recognized as Goa’s heritage instrument. He said that competitions like Ghumatnaad are essential to connect the younger generation with their roots.”Ghumat is not just an instrument, it is the soul of our Goan culture and our Ganesh Chaturthi and Shigmo celebrations. In the era of modern music, it is our duty to protect our traditional art forms. The Ram Nagar Cultural Board has done commendable work by creating this platform for artists across Goa,” Naik said.
The MLA assured full support to such cultural initiatives in the future and stressed that the government is committed to promoting local art and artists from the Saligao constituency and across the state. naik felicitated the participants and winners, noting that the response from across Goa shows that the Ghumat tradition is still alive in the hearts of Goans.
The competition saw enthusiastic participation from several Ghumat Aarti groups from across Goa, who presented soulful Aartis in traditional style, captivating the audience. Local residents, cultural enthusiasts and members of the Ramnagar Cultural Board were present in large numbers.
