Malar Bonderam 2026 Brings Divar’s Heritage and Festive Spirit to Life
Panaji, 16th August 2026 : Goa’s historic Malar Bonderam was celebrated on 15th August 2026 at São Matias, Belsur, Divar, marking the enduring legacy of the island’s 400-year-old Festival of Flags. The celebration brought together Goa’s rich heritage, community spirit and vibrant cultural traditions.
Organised by the São Mathias Sports Club in association with Goa Tourism and the Department of Art and Culture, the festival featured a range of heritage and cultural activities. These included heritage workshops, Goan Educational Talks, a heritage walk, traditional music, Konkani melodies, Kathodio, traditional food, floats and street parades. The celebrations also featured live band and DJ performances.


A special highlight of this year’s celebration was the first-ever drone flag show, unveiled by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. The spectacular presentation showcased the celebrations of Bonderam and its 400-year-old history, bringing the festival’s heritage to the skies.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant stated “I wish everyone a Happy Independence Day and Happy Bonderam. Bonderam has developed its own distinct character and vibe while continuing to remain rooted in Goa’s rich cultural traditions. I extend my greetings to everyone celebrating the festival and invoked God’s blessings on the occasion.
This year’s celebration also placed emphasis on environmental awareness, cultural conservation and youth participation. The festival showcased Goa’s local music, food, village traditions and artistic expressions, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the cultural character of Divar. Comprehensive arrangements were made for the smooth and safe conduct of the celebrations. These included a medical facility with an EMRI ambulance, fire and emergency services, CCTV monitoring along the festival route, systematic parking, free EV bus shuttle services operated by KTC, solid waste management, security and traffic arrangements, and proper signages.
The celebrations were attended by Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Minister for Tourism Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Public Works Shri Digambar Kamat, Minister for Art & Culture and Tribal Welfare Shri Ramesh B. Tawadkar, Cumbarjua MLA Shri Rajesh Faldessai, ZP Member Shri Siddhesh Naik, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Tourism Shri Sandip Jacques, IAS, Director of Tourism Shri Kedar Naik, along with other officials, members of the São Mathias Sports Club, the local community and visitors.
